Job Overview

Our Research Team is a national leader in understanding the real impacts that these new solutions have on addressing climate change. We are seeking a Senior Energy Engineer who will play an important role on the Research Team by working on teams to lead applied research projects to quantify energy impacts and help us achieve clean energy and equity solutions.

 

Job Responsibilities

Lead and conduct the evaluations and analysis of energy systems and improvement strategies in communities and buildings including HVAC, building controls, renewable energy (solar PV), battery energy storage system (BESS), and/or vehicle charging. Lead and conduct field research by visiting buildings and other facilities to gather information and data, which may include hands-on measurement of energy, user satisfaction, comfort, and other outcomes.

Recommend designs and strategies to integrate and coordinate distributed energy resources (e.g., BESS, solar PV etc.) and other emerging technologies into buildings. Responsible for all aspects of a research project from inception to delivery of the final product. Perform technical and administrative tasks associated with project delivery. Identify, seek, and secure new research funding. Negotiate project scope, and review contracts.

 

Job Qualifications

  • Project experience or understanding of fundamental building energy systems including HVAC, building controls, renewable energy (solar PV), battery energy storage system (BESS), and/or vehicle charging.
  • Analytical thinker, ability to solve complex engineering problems and conduct energy and power systems analysis.
  • Ability to manage projects both independently and alongside team members; maintain organization among complexity.
  • Curiosity to investigate new approaches to address climate change and equity problems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse group of energy stakeholders including researchers and technical personnel, utilities, building occupants, community members, and supply chain personnel.
  • Ability to clearly convey complex concepts, ideas, and solutions.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in mechanical, electrical, architectural engineering, physics, or professional equivalent
