JOE DORFLER

Joe Dorfler is an associate in Rich May’s Energy practice group. He represents electric and gas public utilities and municipal aggregators in the Commonwealth on energy efficiency initiatives and other energy-related matters. He advises energy companies before the Department of Public Utilities and the Energy Efficiency Advisory Council. He was named a “Top Lawyer” by Boston Magazine in 2022.

Joe has broad experience in energy law, including involvement in base distribution rate cases for electric, gas, and water utilities, utility financing, federal energy efficiency standards, natural gas system enhancement plans, the competitive energy supply market, license transfers of nuclear power plants, spent nuclear fuel, and distributed generation interconnection.

Prior to joining Rich May, Joe was a Hearing Officer at the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. He was also previously an Assistant Attorney General in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Energy and Telecommunication Division, where he received multiple “Best Brief” awards, and a Deputy Attorney General in the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Pensions & Financial Transactions Section.
