Electrifying Gas Heating: The need, opportunity and challenges
Climate plans in Northeast states with statutory greenhouse gas emissions are clear: achieving climate goals may be challenging with the widespread use of natural gas to heat buildings. While there is some discussion about the role of renewable natural gas or hydrogen for the building sector, many agree that electrification will be the primary pathway to converting buildings from gas. Still, policymakers, implementers, and other stakeholders face challenges with translating this policy need into effective, affordable, and equitable programs. Join our panel of experts as they discuss the policy rationale for switching off gas heat, some of the practical challenges associated with converting customers, and policy options for promoting heat pumps to gas customers. If you work in climate policy and planning, electric and gas markets, or energy efficiency, this discussion is not to be missed!
