Our turnkey offering, which reduces the cost and complexity of electrification, delivers positive impacts across a broad spectrum of stakeholders: students, communities, school districts, fleet operators, manufacturers, and utilities. To keep pace with growth we are adding to our legal team. Reporting to the head of our legal department, the candidate will drive strategic transactions, commercial contracting and procurement to support the origination and development of projects for our rapidly scaling business.
Senior Counsel – Job Overview
We seek an experienced transactional attorney with a commercial mindset. The ideal candidate has 5-10 years of experience, which must include law firm experience. In-house experience is also desired, but is not a requirement. The candidate should have a strong background in government contracting and procurement. Government contracting experience can be at the federal level or with agencies (municipalities, school districts, etc.) across multiples states. Specific sector experience in energy services or equipment leasing is a plus. Reporting to the head of the legal department, the candidate will work in fast-paced startup environment and will be comfortable taking on an array of matters. However, the primary focus in this role will be to collaborate with Highland’s project originators and counterparties to drive the government agency sales process from solicitation response to contract.
Responsibilities will include:
- Support proposals for vehicle electrification-as-a-service, including drafting responses in collaboration with team members
- Draft and negotiate transportation equipment services agreements with counterparties
- Strategic initiatives, including JVs, partnerships (teaming, exclusives), financing and M&A
- Manage compliance with applicable procurement rules, including COIs and ethics
- Support incentive and grant applications and related reporting
- Manage local procurement, permitting and real estate counsel
- Other matters may include: software licensing, corporate governance and entity formation, dispute resolution, equipment vendor and construction agreements, contract lifecycle management implementation / legal operations
Qualifications
- 5-10 years as practicing attorney
- Government contracting and procurement experience
- Live within driving distance of Beverly, MA headquarters (remote possible for well-qualified non-local candidates)
- Admitted in Massachusetts or eligible for in-house counsel registration
- Covid vaccination/booster current
- Eligible to work in the United States (visa support not provided)
- Some travel possible (less than 5%)
